This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Poems of passion Ella Wheeler Wilcox Books

"You cannot understand
how aught you speak
Has the power to stir
the depths of my poor heart."

In my search for poetry books here at amazon I came across this lovely little collection of love poems and general poems. It is Wlla Wheeler Wilcox's most famous work. She seems to have been quite a controversial and loved poetess who spoke her mind no matter what others thought. The poems are all about grand passion and are not erotic but simply romantic. Sometimes she talks about war raging in her soul and at other times she discusses a longing for love. She also talks about unrequited love, despair and rapture. The only thing I seem to disagree with her about is her religious beliefs. In one poem in particular she discusses the idea of how each person is divine or at least she encourages us to worship the divinity in ourselves. It seemed a little New Age for her time. But anyway whatever your beliefs you can still enjoy the romantic poems. These poems are also very easy to understand even though they are quite old-fashioned.

Poems of passion Ella Wheeler Wilcox Books Reviews

A wonderful gem. It is a reproduction of the original that, I suppose you can't find anywhere. But the poems are beautiful though there is a meloncholly that pervades them...they are about passion, not romance. Think passion as suffering for something beautiful.

The beautiful writing is breathtaking at times, but not being able to properly catagorize these kinds of poems has led to their obscurity.

I think they may be in the public domain with Project Guttenberg, I don't know. But the book is about less than $20 so the price is negligable. Besides, you'll want to read these to others, and a book is quite portable.

The only thing wrong with this book is the presentation. The original pages can be seen copied. But that is a small price to pay for the words and the mood they conjure.
Fast delivery! Great packaging! Awesome seller!!! 2nd time I've purchased from them!! Definitely recommend!! Product was exactly as pictured and described!!
this poet has been involved with African American in years past her work (poetry) was spoken well of in many conferences.
Not 's fault, but I was disappointed in the content. I adore her poem "The Voice of the Voiceless" and have read it many times to my students for years, but the version of it in the above mentioned "Poems of Ella Wheeler Wilcox" was different from the version I had originally read elsewhere. Sometimes you get what you want and sometimes you don't! I didn't return it though.
I find Ella Wheeler Wilcox to be the most passionate poet of all time... I'm sure many will agree and others will not. That's the nature of poetry - we love what we feel, and Ella's poetry, for me, is incredible in its ability to raise up feelings. In regard to passion in poetry, 'Ad Finem' is a must read.

I recommend that lovers of poetry browse through her work and decide for yourselves... I believe no one would be disappointed with the time spent.
Ella is one of my favorite poets. She said she had been accused of always writing sentimental poetry so she put together this book of poems of passion. She had a wondrous vocabulary and many interests. She was able to write from a man's point of view as well as her own. Ella wrote at a time when poetry had rhyme and rhythm, but her poetry flows, and the rhyming does not seem contrived.

There were some typos in the edition, but I have not checked them against an original publication of her poems. I know that in some of the original editions, the print was not always clear.
Poetry is one of my favorite genres. I read through the entire collection in one sitting, but will now take time to enjoy each poem more thoroughly. I wish the book had been edited to show the verse rather than simply in paragraphs
